Is dry fasting indicated for muscle knots?

Post by Titan »

After along period of illness and depression, I have muscle knots from my ankles to my jaw and everywhere in between.
The fibrotic effects of stress are very real!

I think I have read anecdotally that dryfasting can sometimes heal scars and other kinds of fibrosis, so I wonder if it might help muscle knots too, or if the effect is too negligible to notice.

Do anyone have any experiences or knowledge of this?

Hi there, this is one of things that I am hoping dry fasting will be able to help with. I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia years ago and while I would say I have been able to recover from just about all the symptoms that go with it, muscle knots/trigger points are the one thing I just can't seem to shake.

I have a list of things I am currently doing/planning to do. (There isn't much point using a tool like dry fasting and returning to bad habits!)

I am also trying to dig into the science of why and how dry fasting might help with this issue in particular. I would say that the reduction in inflammation and possibly the autophagy getting into those knots and clearing out the built up metabolites is part of it. I am doing relatively short dry fasts at the moment, but I have definitely noticed an overall reduction in pain in areas that are normally tender to the touch. (But that could be down to other things as well).

Traditional treatments seem to focus around physical manipulation + drink loads of water to 'flush away' toxins.

I don't know about you, but I feel like my trigger points are just 'stuck' fibres and my hope is that dry fasting works on such a deep cellular level that it triggers a 'disruption' either in the calcium channels in the muscle cells or the sodium in the nerves. I need to get into the physiology more to see if I am on the right track with that one.

So far I like to think I am making good progress, but I see it as a long term project.

I could say lots more on the topic, but will leave it at that for now!

I am positive dry fasting improves fibrotic problems. There was a study where they measured it... 3 days of DF ->

Hemostatic-homeostasis-indices-during-absolute-fasting: dry fasting induces "Functional Fibrinolysis." As the blood thickens, the body upregulates clot-dissolving enzymes (tPA) to maintain flow.

Structure-and-function-of-the-digestive-system-during-dry-fasting: This study details "Hepatic Autophagy" where the liver actively removes damaged organelles and fatty deposits. It notes a 65% clearance of biliary sludge and improvement in Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). It describes the gallbladder contraction squeezing out sediment that could lead to issues.
